The Spring time GB Squad Selection came to a climax at the weekend, where athletes from across the country raced head to head in a battle to attain a place on the GB Target Sprint Squad for the next 6-months.
As we embark upon the competition season, leaving the challenging weather conditions of the winter behind us, 2018 plans to be a non-stop, action-packed year for the enthusiastic and talented new crop of GB Target Sprint Athletes selected.
The GB Target Sprint Selection Panel, lead by Gorgs Geikie (British Shooting) and Martin Beard, (Head GB Target Sprint Coach) and consisting of Stephen Batchelor, John Saint and Mark Lodge (GB Squad Sprint Coach), had many hard decisions to make when selecting GB Squad athletes.
Martin Beard said: “The standard of performance has improved significantly over the past 6-months. It’s a credit to the hardwork and dedication the athletes and coaches have put in over the winter months. This Spring Selection Process demonstrates how Target Sprint in Great Britain has come on yet again in leaps and bounds, which bodes for a very exciting programme of summer International Competitions.”
The Junior Men category showed the strength in depth that is developing on the GB scene, with athletes from different backgrounds such as Scouting, Athletics, Modern Pentathlon and Swimming tussling for position in a sport now they call their own, Target Sprint.
Gorgs Geikie said: “It’s fantastic to see all the categories across junior, senior, male and female all developing, as talent emerges from around the country.
I’m really looking forward to the start of the National Series this year, as this rolls out nationwide and is an excellent platform for new athletes to try the sport and get hooked!”
The next enrolment onto the GB Squad will be at the Talent ID weekend on the 3rd & 4th November 2018, at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex. This again an open opportunity for anyone to trial out for GB Selection.
