The second of two open GB ranking events took place on the athletics track at Southampton Outdoor Sports Complex on Saturday 7th April. Performances from the event qualified athletes to compete at next weekend’s Final GB Selection.
The setting of the athletics track in the heart of the Southampton sporting community and open to juniors and seniors of both genders, lent itself perfectly to the accessible “Sport For All” that Target Sprint is.
The event was kindly hosted by the 21st Romsey Scout and Rifle Clubs lead by Stephen Batchelor and Trevor Draper, who are soon to become an official Target Sprint Hub.
Stephen Batchelor, GB Selector said: “We were delighted to host the event and bring this GB Selection opportunity to the region for the first time. The support of the team at the Southampton Outdoor Sports Complex, the Athletics Club and our 21st Romsey team was fantastic, enabling us to get this first event of this kind up and running in the area.
We made many new connections with new audiences when promoting this event in the area and we hope that if anyone is interested in having a go, they get involved in entering the next competition coming up on Saturday 12th May and/or are welcome train at our Hub.”
Martin Beard, Head GB Target Sprint Coach said: “The outstanding performances of the day came from Kieran Gall (Junior Male – 5;15mins) and Emily Shawyer (Junior Women 5;55mins) who battled the strong wind to complete the 3x 400m interspersed by 2x air rifle shooting in top positions.
It was great to see so many new faces to the sport, along with personal best performances and exciting emerging talent from Southampton.”
Attaining the Minimum Consideration Time (MCT) and/or being Placed in the top three were the requirements to be in order to be invited to the upcoming GB Final Selection weekend. The following athletes all achieved this, so we wish them well and look forward to them potentially representing Team GB in 2018.
