British Shooting sent the first GB Target Sprint team to the first ISSF Junior World Championships this weekend.
The squad of six performed fantastically to show the huge journey the sport of Target Sprint has made in the UK over such a short period of time.
The stand out performance of the event came from Emily Shawyer who gained an automatic qualification place to the final coming second in her heat with a New
British Record time of 5:45.6mins. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to take that form into the final but still finished a respectable ninth. It was Victoria Bradbury who finished as the highest GB female overall with a final ranking of seventh, and the remaining team member Charlotte Huddart finishing tenth.
Kieran Gall did extremely well to reach the final of the junior men competition and finished eighth overall in the final with a new British record time of 5:12.1mins.
GB Team Results:
Junior Men and Men combined event. Teams of 3 athletes.

Junior Women and Women combined event. Teams of 3 athletes:

Mixed Team. Teams of 2 athletes:

Head GB Coach, Martin Beard, said that he was thrilled with the performances of the whole team at the Championships – especially with the number of PB’s they all gained. “Some of our athletes have been training for Target Sprint for under one year,” explained Martin, “other competitors at the Championships have been involved with Target Sprint for at least three or four years, so it’s a credit to how quickly our athletes have progressed.”
Events and Commercial Co-ordinator for British Shooting, Gorgs Geikie, said: “There’s a lot of hard work that these athletes, coaches and support team have put in behind the scenes, and I’m so excited that all their hard work is paying off.
“The most exciting thing is that there is so much more potential for these athletes and others in Great Britain. Our athletes competing in Suhl have come from different backgrounds such as Scouting, Modern Pentathlon and Athletics, as well as different corners of Great Britain such as South West Wales, Yorkshire, Rugeley Staffordshire and the South East. But commonly join together in this new discipline of shooting, a sport for all. Our 2017 performances have really made heads turn on the international stage, showing Great Britain is a force to be reckoned with.
“Martin and his team of coaches, which importantly includes Mark Lodge, athletics coach and GB Target Sprint Selector, should be congratulated for all their hard work too.”
