British Shooting visited Alexander Stadium, the home of premier athletics club Birchfield Harriers yesterday, for our Masterclass “Putting the Sprint in Target Sprint” kindly hosted by Target Sprint Burntwood.
The day was packed with world class knowledge, experience and enthusiasm from the team of experts and participating athletes, parents and coaches.
Team of Experts:
- Keith Holt – Level 4 Performance Coach & England Athletics Team Manager & Coach
- Edyah (Edi) Hosseini – Sports therapist with a masters in Strength & Conditioning
- Matthew Ashford – Sport & Exercise Psychologist (MSc, MBPsS)
The masterclass combined practical and theoretical sessions for all levels of target sprint athletes and all delivered in a fun, interactive, engaging way.
The setting of the Birchfield Harriers Club was enough to inspire any keen athlete and coach! The walls of the club room were lined with star-studded medal winning World, Olympic and Paralympic athletes over the years. And the trophy cabinets busting at the seams with success.
Edi and Keith took the participants through their individual physical testing and screening, giving the athletes plenty of useful information and data to take away. The physical screening and testing covered endurance, power, speed and agility as well as physical testing protocols helping to identify any physical weakness and strengths the athletes may have.
The physical testing took place both indoors and out on the Alexander Stadium track, which will be a fantastic venue for the upcoming Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
The 5 C’s were the subject of Matt’s interactive afternoon session, aimed to help the participants and their supporters understand the psychological essentials to performance sport.
Commitment, Communication, Concentration, Control and Confidence..
Not only did the participants go home inspired and with data, knowledge and information, but also a goody bag full of gifts and life skills from a fun, golden day that will stand them in good-stead for the upcoming season and their next steps in life.
A special thanks to Janine Bradbury and Target Sprint Burntwood for all your support and help. Also Luke Robinson from Mindfit.
