The British Shooting Target Sprint National Series came to Wales on 22nd September 2018 at the picturesque Regional Centre Llandovery College.

The event was full with athletes of all abilities and ages taking part from newcomers, to the five GB athletes who have just returned from the World Championships in Korea overcoming any signs of jet lag.
The event started with the Junior men’s event packed with GB stars enjoying the fresh early morning start. That was followed by five more heats of Youth Men, Youth Women, Junior Women, Senior Men, and last but not least the Senior Women in which a daughter and mother participation by Nicole and Wendy Newton who went on to take Gold and Silver medals respectfully.
In the meantime family and friend supporters enjoyed the fantastic Regional Centre facilities with free coffee, tea, water, caramel biscuits and of course the essential Welsh Cakes in the first floor lounge area.
The venue enabled viewing of the shooting event from the warmth and comfort of a glazed viewing area with supporters then moving out on to the external viewing balcony to give a panoramic experience of the entire race finishing under the packed and noisy balcony cheering the athletes home.
The action was non-stop. Six races, one every 30 minutes all with the sound of music pumping up the atmosphere during the shooting stages. The excitement and energy was electric all day.
To conclude the fantastic event the medal presentations took place in the Sports Hall, firstly for the National Series event with the added presentation of National Series Final invitations. This was followed by the Welsh Confined Championship presentation with Paul O’Callaghan becoming Men’s Welsh Champion and Emily Shawyer becoming Women’s Welsh Champion. These trophies presented by John Dallimore the High Performance Manager of the Welsh Target Shooting Federation.
