More GBR Medals in Changwon

Posted on September 13, 2018 (updated:September 13, 2018) by Gorgs Geikie

GB’s Target Sprint squad have secured three more medals at the ISSF World Championships in Changwon – this time in the team events.

The Women’s Team event saw six of our athletes walk away with a medal around their necks, with two teams of three winning silver and bronze.

Women’s Team

Silver: Emily Shawyer, Poppy Clark, Katie Robbins.

Bronze: Victoria Bradbury, Isabel Moore, Charlotte Huddart

On the same day, in what was probably the most exciting race of the Championships, Oliver Vass and Rachel McManus won bronze in Mixed Pairs.

Mixed Team

Bronze: Oliver Vass, Rachel McManus

Speaking after the race, Rachel McManus, who only started competing in the sport two years ago, said: “I’m delighted, we had a very hard final and now we have the medal to reward all the effort and commitment that we’ve put into the sport.

“You have to gel as a team in this event and I think we worked well together. I couldn’t have wished for a better partner.

“In this sport you just have to go all out, hold your nerve and today, we looked to creep up on the Italians and Germans and see where we can make gains.

“Everybody went out fast from the whistle. I had a bit of a slip at the start but I just had to keep focussed. I think I shot the first shoot clean and then it was all down to the legs from there.”

Rachel’s team mate, Oliver Vass, added: “ I am absolutely ecstatic. Two years training for myself and I feel like for both of us it’s a dream come true.

“We knew it was going to be a tough, tough race, it was the hardest race of my life but we got what we came here to achieve.

“The last week we’ve been trying to prepare as best as we can, both psychologically and physically – but that was just a fantastic result for us.

“Today was all about going back to basics and sticking to what you’ve been taught. We have the process drilled into us by our coaches and the support of the teammates around us also helps.”

British Shooting would like to say a huge congratulations to all the athletes competing in Target Sprint in Changwon, as well as Head GB Coach Martin Beard and the whole support team.
