We are delighted to announce the establishment of a new Target Sprint Regional Centre – Target Sprint Cymru at Llandovery College
Llandovery in Carmarthenshire set in the heart of Wales offers access to athletes from all parts of Wales. The Regional Centre is hosted at historic Llandovery College renowned for its sporting achievements. The Centre benefits from having its own Target Sprint Educator and a team of coaches plus access to strength and conditioning, athletic and nutrition support with the use of both indoor training and outdoor training facilities.
Backed by British Shooting, the Welsh Target Shooting Federation (‘WTSF’), the Welsh Air Gun Association (‘WAA’) and Llandovery College the Regional Centre places Wales on the World Target Sprint map. Having had Welsh athletes represent Great Britain at past World Championships in Target Sprint and having British Champions and British Record Holders in Target sprint this is a further statement of intent by the WTSF and WAA that the development of Target Sprint in Wales is only going forwards.
The Regional Centre is the Centre of Excellence for Elite Target Sprint Athletes as well as providing access to those wishing to begin their development in this exciting and fast moving ISSF sport.
The aim is that clubs across Wales may liaise with and work to develop athletes to benefit from the Regional Centre to become the best in Wales and Great Britain.
Hosting the National Series Welsh Championships on 16 June 2018 will be the first major event to be held at the Centre and the date for its official launch. Watch out for training days and join us on our journey.
WTSF Development Manager Alan Green says:
“Having supported the development of Target Sprint from it’s inception in the UK, by hosting the first British National Series final in Cardiff in 2016, I am pleased that through the efforts and generosity of Llandovery College, Welsh Shooting is able to support the first Regional Centre in Wales.
I look forward, with excitement, the possibilities that this relatively new “sport for all” initiative by the International Shooting Sports Federation will bring to Wales.”
