The last National Series Target Sprint event took place at the weekend kindly hosted by Glyn School.
The South East leg was well supported by young people and adults competing. The atmosphere created by the spectators and helpers made it a friendly, fun and competitive environment welcoming those who were new to the sport and shooting, as well as those experienced individuals.
We were proud to welcome Kieran Gall’s return from the World Championships as the event’s Athlete Ambassador. Kieran, a student at Glyn school, wasn’t only an inspiring role model to all the athletes competing at the weekend, but the growing community of Target Sprint.
Kieran led by example on Saturday, winning the Junior Men category and encouraging his fellow students from Glyn School to “give-it-a-go”. It was through scouting that Kieran got involved with the sport, and a sport in which he is going from strength-to-strength.
The memorable performances at the South East qualifier were from Carwyn Hampton-Jones, the Senior Men Gold Medallist and Josie Murray a Senior Lady who improved her time by over 2mins from the Heat to the Final. As well as the notable strength and depth of the Youth Men category was impressive, with Josh Gall, Alex Neal and Toby Meek taking the medals.
21 athletes who competed at the South East Target Sprint also qualified for the National Final to be held at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex on Saturday 9th Sept. So we look forward to seeing these athletes again in September, who will be within a chance of becoming National Champion.
