New Hub receives funding success!

Posted on February 16, 2021 (updated:February 16, 2021) by Gorgs Geikie

Over £13.5k funding secured for new Target Sprint Hub.

Celebrations are taking place in south Wales as Dave Cook and the CRAI Scout District secure over £13,500 of funding from Sport Wales. This is in addition to the £1,500 funded by CRAI Scout District themselves.

CRAI Activity Park is based near Newport. Thanks to this boost of funding and the fantastic support they have had from a number of individuals and organisations locally and nationally, they are set to expand their activities which includes Target Sprint.

The driving force behind this successful application and engagement of support is Dave Cook. Of course there’s always a great team behind a great leader and this is no different for the CRAI Scout District.

Rob Shawyer, Target Sprint Network Activator said; “This is great news having Dave and his team start a new Target Sprint Hub, expanding our network of opportunities within Wales and Great Britain. With David’s enthusiasm I am sure it will be a great success.”

Dave first got inspired with Target Sprint at the Gilwell Reunion. The Gilwell Reunion is an annual weekend where Scout Leaders from all over the country descend on Gilwell for a weekend packed with activities and educational opportunities to help upskill and inspire Scout Leaders. Doug Pepper, one of our Target Sprint Educators, delivered a Target Sprint Leader course where Dave became full qualified. From that point he never looked back!

The funding is set to go towards equipment such as Air Rifles, targets, pellets, range set up. As well as coaching qualifications and more to not only enable Target Sprint activity but airgun, crossbow and archery to grow.

The aspirations are to have regular multi activity sessions and competitions, when Covid restrictions allow. There is already great interest from the Scout District and Scouts Cymru, as well as the local schools, Cadet groups and Girl Guides.

Dave and the team at CRAI Scout District would like to thank all those who have supported them to this point, which is far from the end, but just the beginning…!

Particular thanks to:

The Scout Association and Scouts Cymru

Nigel Cole (Scouts Cymru National Shooting Adviser)

Chrissy Monksummers (Scout National Shooting Squad)

Rich Flowerdew (Scouts Cymru Head of Strategy)

Caerphilly County Council

Sean Davies (Sport Development Officer)

Welsh Target Shooting Federation

Robert Shawyer (Target Sprint Network Activator)

Alan Green (WTSF Development Officer)

We at British Shooting would like to congratulate David and his team, and welcome them to our Target Sprint Hub network.
