NEW Target Sprint Regional Centre – NW

Posted on July 4, 2018 (updated:July 4, 2018) by Gorgs Geikie

We’re delighted to announce Ashton Target Sports Club – www.ashtontargetsports.club  as the third official Target Sprint Regional Centre to join our community.

The driving force behind the tremendous development of the sport in the North West is in largely thanks to Doug Pepper, Target Sprint Educator. Congratulations Doug.

Doug’s reflections and comments on this milestone: “I am really pleased that all the work to promote Target Sprint in the North West has resulted in becoming a Regional Centre. This marries perfectly with the formation of the North West Regional Target Sports Association which will feature a Target Sprint Squad.

“The success of the inaugural North West Regional Champs at East Cheshire Harriers in Ashton-Under-Lyne has shown that there is significant interest in the sport locally and that national level events can be hosted in the North West.

“We now have the foundations in terms of facilities to grow the sport both at a local and regional level, and we are already seeing athletes with potential to go far in the sport.

“We are also looking to have a close partnership with Greater Manchester East Scouts to develop the sport for scouts and bring on future instructors/coaches.

“The support from the GB Target Sprint coaching team and British Shooting has been instrumental in enabling the North West to increase participation at a grassroots and development level.

“As well as competing in the National Series, we also plan to put athletes that meet the minimum consideration times forward for GB team selection events.

“In the fullness of time I hope to see more training and competitive events being hosted in the North of England to remove travel as a potential barrier for athletes who currently need to travel to Yate , as well as looking at competing in other target sprint competitions.”
